Seamless microcement for New Zealand architecture
The finish for
What is microcement?
Microcement is a multi-layer decorative coating system designed to create seamless, continuous surfaces across floors, walls and joinery.
Applied at just 2–3mm thick, it delivers a durable, grout-free finish that can be installed over existing substrates including tile, concrete and plasterboard.
Our microcement systems are not single coatings, but carefully built, multi-layer applications designed for strength, flexibility and long-term durability.
Each layer works in synergy to improve adhesion, reduce the risk of cracking and ensure consistent performance - particularly in wet areas and high-traffic environments.

Microcement FAQs
-
Microcement is a continuous cement-based coating system applied by hand in multiple layers to create a seamless surface. Unlike paint or decorative plasters, microcement is a technical system engineered for durability, flexibility and long-term performance across bathrooms, floors, interiors and exteriors.
-
Microcement can be applied over a wide range of stable, well-prepared substrates, making it a highly versatile finish for both new builds and renovations.
Common substrates include:
Concrete and cement screeds
Existing tiles (walls and floors)
Plasterboard (GIB) and fibre cement बोर्ड
MDF and timber (in dry areas, with correct preparation)
Rendered or plastered surfaces
The key to a successful microcement application is substrate preparation. Surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, fully cured, and free from movement. In wet areas, appropriate waterproofing systems must be installed prior to application to meet New Zealand Building Code requirements.
For best results, microcement should always be applied by a Certified Applicator who can assess the substrate and specify the correct system.
-
Microcement can be applied to:
• Bathroom walls and showers
• Floors (residential and commercial)
• Kitchen splashbacks
• Benchtops and joinery
• Staircases
• Fireplaces (subject to substrate and heat considerations)
• Exterior facades and outdoor areasIt can be installed over correctly prepared tile, concrete, screed, GIB and other stable substrates.
-
Yes - in many renovation projects, microcement is applied directly over existing tiles.
-
Yes - microcement is fully compatible with underfloor heating systems when correctly specified and installed.
-
When installed correctly by a Certified Applicator over a properly prepared and stable substrate, our microcement is formulated to minimise cracking. Movement joints and structural considerations must always be respected.
-
No. Microcement is not a DIY product. It is a specialist, multi-layer system available exclusively through Certified Applicators to protect the integrity of the finish and warranty.
-
Microcement is a premium, hand-applied surface system, so pricing can vary depending on the scope and complexity of the project.
Factors that influence cost include substrate condition, surface area, detailing, access and the specific system used. While the upfront cost can seem higher than some traditional finishes, microcement offers long-term value through its durability, low maintenance and seamless aesthetic.
